Michael D. Hebert, co-managing member of Becker & Hebert, LLC, is a graduate of Louisiana State University (B.S. 1982) and Louisiana State University Law School (J.D. 1985). He is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state and federal courts, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. For over forty years, Mr. Hebert’s practice has provided a wide array of consulting, litigation, and transactional services in the areas of business and commercial law, employment law, construction law, public utility and telecommunications law, municipal government law, land use law, economic development projects, and governmental relations. During his career, he counts among his clients national corporations, electric, water, and sewer utilities, hospitals, oil service companies, information technology companies, telecommunications and video providers, and over 70 Louisiana local governments. His achievements as a litigator include the leading of a legal team in Louisiana and Texas for the successful resolution of extensive litigation in both states regarding complex interstate power purchase and sale arrangements, as well as the successful defense of a $125,000,000 bond issue of the City of Lafayette to finance its pioneering fiber optic telecommunications system. He has been lead counsel on many Louisiana development projects, including the development of a one-million-square foot Amazon distribution facility. Mr. Hebert was the City-Parish Attorney for Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government from 2011-2015, and he was the last City Attorney of the City of Lafayette prior to the consolidation of the City and Parish of Lafayette in 1996. He has been involved as counsel for various parties, including as lead counsel, in many significant public-private partnerships in the area in recent years, both as a draftsman and negotiator and as an advocate.
